Strap On The Colts and Saddle Up The Palominos! It's Time for a Creativity Cattle Drive

Ulanguzi's most recent semi-annual team retreat seen as a great success

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 25, 2006) There are a lot of places to find inspiration. Some find it in the collaboration of great Jazz performers. Some find it in the emotion of an exhibit at an art gallery. Still others look to the beauty of nature. This fall, team members at Ulanguzi Creative Strategies found inspiration at a goat farm. Celebrity Dairy in Siler City, North Carolina was the host of Ulanguzi's most recent semi-annual team retreat, themed "Creativity Cattle Drive."

Ulanguzi Team Members donned cowboy hats and braved the (not so) unforgiving countryside looking to rustle up some creativity and bring home a heapin' helpin' of innovation.

When asked the inevitable question, "Goat Farm?" managing partner Dylan Bost responds, "Getting away from your everyday office environment is one of the most effective ways to promote participation and spark new ideas. When everyone is wearing a cowboy hat, the usual corporate hierarchies don't seem to matter so much."

Bost kicked off the day with highlights of Ulanguzi's history and traditions, followed by a sneak peak of where the agency is headed. Kristi Drum, a Senior Account Executive at Ulanguzi noted, "Most of everyone's normal work day is focused on the tasks at hand. Having the opportunity to step back and see your role in the larger corporate strategy really inspired a sense of purpose in my roll."

The morning continued with a presentation entitled "Redefining the Ulanguzi Brand." In it, Partner and Creative Director Kenneth Penkowski guided Ulanguzi team members through the next evolution of the agency's brand thinking. "Giving each team member an understanding of our vision and brand helps them find their part in making that story come true," remarked Penkowski. "As we continue to grow, we are defining and taking more opportunities to foster our culture of revolutionary success."

During the presentation, each Team Member received their own "Revolution Handbook," their guide to participating in Ulanguzi's story. "Revolutions are not only political," adds Penkowski. "They happen in art, literature, science, technology, culture, thinking—we bring that attitude to our clients and it is critical that every team member knows that and believes they can make it happen for our clients."

After a lunch, which included Celebrity Dairy's award-winning goat cheeses, the program took a unique twist as Wrangler Dave of The Imagination Ranch lead the entire team in an afternoon of discovery and understanding. Team members participated in the development and presentation of new inventions made from Tinker Toys and Play-doh. Competitions prompted participants to develop new uses for obscure objects. And exercises helped team members engage one another and spark imagination.

"Wrangler Dave was not only a lot of fun," remarked Ulanguzi Development Director Matt Redding, "we have taken away a lot of the lessons learned, putting them into practice with great results in the challenges that face us every day."

All in all, the day was a marked success and helped enhance the already strong Ulanguzi environment. Ulanguzi is more prepared than ever to provide an exciting and rewarding place to work, take on the challenges that clients bring on a daily basis and develop a culture that fosters creativity, innovation and revolutionary success.
